Manuscripts published with Abbott Press will be reviewed by a professional editor hand-selected by Writer's Digest. Titles deemed to be of exceptionally high literary merit will feature the Writer's Digest Mark of Quality, a prestigious mark designed to convey the book's excellence.

The Writer’s Digest Mark of Quality Review is included in all of our standard publishing packages, making nearly every book published with Abbott Press eligible to receive the Mark of Quality.

Only select books receive the Writer’s Digest Mark of Quality.

Here’s how it works:

When the final proof of an Abbott Press title is ready to be sent to the printer, we forward a PDF of the book to Writer’s Digest. There, the book is assigned to a professional editor who is responsible for conducting the review.


For fiction, editors evaluate the overall quality based on the following elements:

  • Quality of Writing — style, voice, grammar, etc.

  • Elements of Fiction — character, plot, description, dialogue, etc.

  • Originality of Story

  • Readability


For non-fiction, editors evaluate the overall quality based on the following elements:

  • Quality of Writing — style, voice, grammar, etc.

  • Accuracy of Information

  • Author’s Command of Subject Matter

  • Readability


Each element is scored on a scale of 1–5, with 5 representing the highest level of quality in each category. Books that score a 5 in every category will receive the Writer’s Digest Mark of Quality.
